Here we are at the dough disco!

What ingredients do I need?

  • 500g plain flour

  • 130g salt

  • 4 tablespoons cream of tartar

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 700ml (approx) boiled water

  • food colouring (gel icing colouring works best)

  • glycerine

  • essence

What equipment do I need?

  • large mixing bowl

  • kettle of boiling water

  • jug

  • wooden spoon

  • tablespoon

  • gloves (optional) to help protect your hands from heat and the food colouring

What is the method?

  • Weigh out the salt and flour into a bowl

  • Add the cream of tartar and vegetable oil and give it a stir

  • Pour the boiling water into the jug

  • Add the food colouring and essence to the boiling water

  • Slowly add the water to the flour mixture, stirring it in with a spoon

  • Keep stirring and let the mixture stick together

  • When you've added nearly all the water, start to knead it in the bowl with your hands. Take care as the water is boiling

  • If you can knead it easily, add a bit more water (it's better to be too sticky rather than too dry as you can always add more flour)

  • Add a few drops of glycerine for extra shine (this is also useful to add when play dough starts to dry out)

  • Take it out of the bowl and knead it on the surface, adding more flour if needed

  • Mix it together really well

  • Store in an airtight container and it will last you for months

ENJOY!!
